Beware Dryer Fires PDF Print E-mail

FIRE SAFETY >>

National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 2005 records indicate that dryers and washing machines were involved in one out of every 21 home structure fires reported to U.S. fire departments. These fires resulted in $207 million of direct property damage, over 400 injuries and 14 deaths. The number one cause?  Failure to clean lint build-up in filters and remove accumulated lint around the drum.

Do you have the right deductibles? PDF Print E-mail

BUYER ALERT

Deductible: The amount of money that comes out of your pocket before the insurance company begins to reimburse you for a covered economic loss.

The size of the deductibles you choose for your home, auto or business insurance is your decision, of course. The higher your deductibles, the lower your premiums.  That’s good.  If you have a loss and a claim, however, you pay more dollars out-of-pocket.  You have essentially “self-insured” for the deductible amount.

In these economic times, it makes sense to review all deductible decisions.  First, do you know what your deductible amounts are?  If they are high deductibles, are you comfortable with them?  Do you have questions about your options?  Need information about premium costs based on a change to lower deductibles?

  • Contact us to review whether your policy carries the appropriate deductible for your needs!

Business in the home?

Your basic homeowners policy liability coverage specifically excludes a home business.  Also, there is only $2,500 of coverage for in-home business property (equipment, desks, bookcases, etc.)  Business property is only covered for $250 when it is out of the home.

Make Sure Home Contractors Are Insured

CONSUMER TIP >>

Thinking about having some heating system work done?  Or plumbing?  Or you need to replace a roof next spring?

Make sure that your home repair contractors have proper worker’s compensation and liability insurance.  Ask them to show you a certificate of insurance from their insurer.

Proper insurance is critical.  If there is a claim because of an accident caused by your contractor at your home or business and the contractor has no insurance coverage, it could present major problems.
